The Gambia River runs through the center of Gambia. The country itself consists of narrow strips of land on each side of the Gambia River, and is surrounded by Senegal on three sides. Its terrain consists mostly of flood plains and low hills. Teh Gambia has a subtropical climate with a cool season, from November to May, during which the dry hot harmattan winds blow in from the Sahara. The rainy season lasts from June to October.
